Job Title:

Outdoor Fields and Indoor Facility Maintenance Coordinator

Lakeside Park Athletic Fields, Nelson BC                         Indoor Soccer Facility, Nelson BC

Hours:

Flexible Hours - approximately 20 day time hours per week Lakeside Fields April-October (majority of hours Apr-June) Indoor Facility October-April (weekly cleaning and maintenance)

Wage:  

Up to $15/hour

Lakeside Field & Indoor Facility Duties:
This position is responsible for performing semi-skilled grounds keeping work to maintain athletic fields and associated athletic equipment. Layout, mark and line grass and play areas with spray paint. Perform minor maintenance of grass and sod primarily to assure that holes are filled-in and foreign objects removed.  Perform minor maintenance, painting and repair work on indoor and outdoor equipment and facilities; coordinate setting up and moving equipment (soccer nets), lock down nets for safety and assist in issuing equipment for practices and games.  Set up and take down of fencing. Answer player, coach and parent inquiries. Clean field house offices, equipment room and indoor facility including washrooms. Up keep of the indoor turf, goal and field netting. Report unsafe conditions, maintenance needed for sprinklers, damage and other issues that require attention.

Skills & Qualifications:
High school diploma or similar and grounds keeping or other labor experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities required. Handy person skills are considered an asset. Candidates must have the ability to perform specialized grounds maintenance work in the preparation and maintenance of athletic fields and surrounding landscape.  Fine motor skills and hand eye coordination required to operate lining machine. Must learn and follow procedures for safe handling of paints and solvents (limited). Plan, organize and prioritize work to accommodate practice and game schedules, adapt working hours and activities to changing weather and field conditions; understand and follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Candidates must have solid geometry and measurement skills and the ability to accurately layout athletic fields in prescribed dimensions.

Working Conditions:
Outdoor environment; subject to adverse weather conditions; subject to frequent lifting (up to 70 lbs. unassisted), standing, bending, carrying, pushing and pulling.  Frequent walking required.  Water proof footwear recommended.

Working Relationships:
Receive supervision from Executive Director of Nelson Youth Soccer. Provide direction to Ground Maintenance Specialist and volunteers.
